Otley Chevin is a large hill overshadowing the small West Yorkshire town. The word Chevin literally means Ridge in Old English. It is covered in woodland, and the highest point has the rather unimaginative name Surprise View, presumably because you’re amazed that Otley looks so nice from above.
If you walk downhill, along the ridge, towards Pool-in-Wharfedale, you descend into attractive woodland. You won’t be alone though; lots of people take in the fresh air, and walk their dogs, hold hands, etc. In winter, it’s a great spot for suicide-by-sledge. In summer, prepare to be knocked over by one of those lunatic masochist joggers, who prefer steep and uneven ground.
