Honeysuckle and Rain

Honeysuckle and Rain

I can’t remember this much rain since 1984, when it really did rain for 40 days and 40 nights in Liverpool. Last week, the trunk road down the hill was flooded when the rainwater drains started working in reverse. Parked cars near the train station moved themselves when the water levels rose to several feet. Daily I have seen TV images of flooding all over the United Kingdom, but we have got away without a major catastrophe or loss of life.

Brits typically make ironic jokes about the famous British Summer, and this morning I had to laugh when it was announced that it’s now okay to use garden sprinklers. Let’s look on the bright side: It’s been a good year for slugs and weeds.
