Holme Valley

Holme Valley with Emley Moor transmitter on the horizon

I’ll get it over with, right now: Last of the Summer Wine! Okay, now that’s out of my system, we’ll move on. This is a photograph of the Holme valley, looking towards Emley Moor transmitter from Holme Moss hill, where I saw the Curlew. The town in the valley is Holmfirth, which sounds a lot better than it is. I drove through it three times, because I got lost twice, and at none of those times was I compelled to stop and get out, not even for directions.

It looks much nicer from a distance. I don’t mean that metaphorically, as I don’t know the place—how could I, I’ve never gotten out of the car? The Holme Valley is the last stop out of the South West of Yorkshire, before you hit Derbyshire and the Peak District national park.
