The Italians seem to enjoy their food. Meal times are a big part of social life in Italy. They can take up a large part of the day. There are aperitifs, several small courses (including the obligatory pasta), meat, dessert, coffee … more coffee. I have yet to go to an Italian café, like this Lucca pizzeria, where the staff do not take any pride in their work. The Italians do not treat their guests with any less than the warmest hospitality.
Italian food is not particularly exciting or exotic. But it is usually delicious, and it is always served with respect. Never rush dinner in a Lucca pizzeria. Salute!
