Gordale Beck trickles between the towering gorge cliffs of Gordale Scar and the rush of Janet’s Foss waterfall, five minutes’ walk downstream. Janet is thought to be a fairy which lived in the cave behind the waterfall. Don’t ask me why it’s called a Foss; I guess the Nordic influence explains the Malham dialect! Here is the beck, seen after winter’s first snowfall, with the hills of Gordale in the distance.
